So here is the first of many blogs that I should have written a long time ago but have yet taken the time to post. After graduation in May, it was time to start planning some of the major events in our lives. The first of which was Greg's ordination (officially becoming a pastor). We were so blessed to be sent to a congregation where they allowed Greg to be ordained at his home congregation. So on June 8th, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, Nebraska, Greg Prauner became Pastor Gregory Prauner. The service was amazing. However, it was amazing the day went off the way it did. In June, there were some horrific thunderstorms that caused major flooding in and around Battle Creek. We were actually at a wedding in a town about 15 miles away and couldn't get back on Saturday night. When we went into town for church on Sunday people had their canoes out and were canoing down the streets of Battle Creek. Thankfully the water subsided by the afternoon and we were able to have a wonderful church service. The sermon was entitled, "Twisted", and basically asked Greg why he thought he had the right to be a pastor. Who was he to have this position in life? We still have the twisted piece of lumber that pastor used to remind Greg how he really is. Now if Greg ever gets a big head he can look at that piece of wood that no one would use to build a thing and remember that God can use everything, even a twisted piece of lumber. AMAZING!
So on a different note, my first official act as a pastor's wife was ironing Greg's stole so that it wouldn't be wrinkled when his mom put it on during the church service. Well I failed miserably. Since we were in Nebraska, I was using his mom's iron which is about 30 years old without any distinct settings. The iron got WAY to hot and I ended up melting part of his stole less than an hour before the Ordination was about to begin. Thankfully no one noticed and all went well. So from now on...no more ironing of the stoles.
